Puerto de las Nieves Agaete

Agaete is a municipality of Las Palmas province, on the Canary Islands, Spain. It is in the northwest of Gran Canaria island, enclosed by the Atlantic Ocean to the west, Gáldar to the northeast, and Artenara to the south. Agaete's area is 45,50 km²[1] with a population of 5,796 (2003[2]).
Agaete used to be the preferred place to get a view of El Dedo de Dios, a natural monument on the coastline, before the latter was destroyed during Tropical Storm Delta in November 2005.

Bandama Caldera ( Crater Bandama )

Today was my second Excursion at the Spanish school. I love exploring Canary Island, and especially the inland. Bandama is the largest crater on the Island. This volcanic caldera reaches 569 m (1,867 ft) above sea level at the highest point on its rim, Pico de Bandama, and is about 1,000 m (3,300 ft) wide and 200 m (700 ft) deep. The view from the peak is spectacular, all the way to Las Palmas, and surrounding. With my wide angle lens i was able to capture the whole crater. Maybe next time i walk to the bottom of the crater, it is very steep and takes about half hour.

Arucas the village with the beautiful Cathedral

A continuation of my excursion last Friday afternoon.

Arucas is a beautiful small town high up inland of the Island. when we  drove out of town up to (La Montaña de Arucas) we were lucky and the weather was nice we had the most beautiful view to Las Palmas and Arucas. The cathedral looked like a toy. As you can see the sky was blue and the view was excellent. The cathedral is very big, and it is unusual to build such a big church in a small village.

A new chapter with lots of learning.

My first  week attempt to learn the verbs in Spanish.  I can walk from my apartment to the school, It is amazing how exhausting it is to go to school at my age. But i am now proud to speak a few words in the correct past tense. Spanish is a very complicated language. My reward came Friday afternoon, when we had the excursion to Aruca and Teror. This are two beautiful villages inland of the Island. I show you photos  of Teror first, because I fell in love with the village, Teror has most charming buildings with balconies, and a beautiful church (the teacher told us) it is the most important church of Gran Canaria. I love the sleepy village, it feels like time has stood still, no cars in the small streets. Curvy small streets take you high up to Aruca and Teror. Of course i took hundreds of photos. The church of Teror is most important on the Island. On the 8th of September thousands of people walk from all over the Island to the church of Teror  to honour the virgin. On Saturday the 7th of September special carriages take typical food of the Island to Teror, to offer the Virgin,

The main street of the old town has beautiful old buildings with  typical Balconies of the early settlers time.

Today i like to take you to the Park Santa Catalina, I go there with the dog  most days for a walk. It is a very interesting park. Right near the port where the Cruise ship come in. They change the flowers regularly, the older people have tables and play cards and chess and many other board games. There are many little restaurants, and a German coffee shop. Benches invite you to sit down and see the tourists go by. The park is only minutes from my home.  Many people have little dogs, and we have to carry a water bottle to wash the wee away and a bag for the poo. Smoking is allowed in every restaurant outside on the veranda. The shops close at 2 pm and reopen at 5 pm again until 8 pm. The bank always closes at 2 pm. Today, good  Friday many Cruise ship arrived in the early morning. From my apartment i can hear the horn at night when they leave again.
